Nokia Unveils Its Cseries | The Nokia C5 Announced

The CeBIT Global Conferences are underway in Hannover, Germany, and Nokia has kicked off with the revelation of its Cseries portfolio. The Nokia C5 is the first Cseries device to be announced and is designed to cater for those looking for a cheap smartphone with heavy social networking capabilities. If you fit the bill, you will also be delighted to learn that the Nokia C5 is estimated to retail for around £125 before taxes and subsides.

The Nokia C5 is a candybar, S60 3rd Edition Feature Pack 2 handset, that boasts a cool new feature in its phone book, where you can see your friends status updates directly from Facebook. You can also update your Facebook status easily and share your location with Ovi Maps 3.0. The homescreen will show off your favourite three friends for easy access to calling and messaging whilst Nokia Messaging enables you to keep in touch on IM using Google Talk or Windows Live Messenger.

Storage is the mircoSD variety with support for up to 16GB cards – the Nokia C5 will come with a 2GB card in the box, plenty of room for storing music and with the built in stereo FM radio and 3.5mm AV connector, not to mention the Stereo IHF speaker, it should sound good too. The device is small too, measuring just over 12mm thin and 46mm across (and 112mm high). Battery life is good for up to 12 hours talktime (GSM) and it’ll stay on standby for a staggering 26 days between charges.

Available in white and warm grey, the Nokia C5 will be available in the second quarter of 2010 globally in Europe, Eurasia, SEAP, China and MEA. The Nokia C5 is expected to retail at around £125 before taxes and subsidies.

Nokia N900 Gaming With Face Detection

Check out this face detection/tracking demo that uses the front facing camera of the Nokia N900. The game is called BurgerFace, and the task is to collect as many burgers and dodge as many knives as you can by simply moving your head from side to side as the controller. This cool innovative concept is just another glimpse at the power behind this device. Video after the jump.

New Firmware v20.0.5 | Nokia X6

It sure is raining firmwares, and next up to get its fix is the Nokia X6. Nokia’s most advanced Xseries device has just been bumped up to v20.0.5. Its unclear yet as to whether any new features have been implemented, however we hope that Nokia has applied kinetic scrolling within the menu screens as it did with the Nokia 5800XM in its new v50.0.005 update. The new firmware will gradually make its way round to you over the coming weeks depending on your region and product code. If you have managed to update your Nokia X6, drop a comment after the break and share your experiences.

How To Update The Firmware

There are many ways of updating the firmware on your Nokia handset. To install the software on your device using FOTA (Firmware Over-The-Air), type in *#0000# on the home screen or go to Device Manager. Then select Options, Check for updates and follow the on screen prompts. If the firmware update is not immediately available via FOTA, or the device you are using does not have support for this service, you can also update your firmware using NSU (Nokia Software Updater) and or Nokia Ovi Suite on your PC. Once you plug your device in, select the PC Suite option, ensuring that the phone has a Sim Card inserted and the profile is set to General. Some devices support UDP (User Data Preservation), which will preserve all your data and content on your device during these updates. However we still recommend you do a full backup in order to guarantee the safety of your data. Please share your thoughts and experiences with the new firmware in the comments below.
