MARGO VICTOR
I work in the various disciplines of film, painting, performance and photography. I have an ongoing interest in “special projects”, ranging from a conceptual band called “Black Flower” - which had its third performance in Tokyo last year, to the creation of a two-year project space in Los Angeles where young, recently graduated, or otherwise unexposed artists could reach an audience.
I consider my experimental films to be the synthesis of the other disciplines in my practice coming together, providing an area that allows me to work with people, analogue and digital sound, photography, painting with color, and linguistics. Many of my film images would reveal an ongoing fascination with old studio animation technique and my collage works on paper could easily be instruments for an experimental film or elements for a title sequence. For instance while my film “Werra”, 2004 is a combination of stop motion and cell animation, I consider it to be sculptural.
The study of painting came first for me and soon moved to abstraction, a vigorous exploration and practice that built my personal approach to non-traditional filmmaking. Paintings have spawned films and in turn films have been the germinating ground for paintings and posters.
